The basics of sound perception
One of the main features of the perception of sound can be called that autonomous sound sources can radiate a sound wave simultaneously several frequencies. And besides the main frequency, sound waves of large frequencies are always emitted. And this, in turn, allows each individual sound to gain their own unique shade.
But the picture of the perception of the sound is many times complicated as soon as the sound source is placed in any room. In this case, sound waves will be additionally reflected from various surfaces: ceiling, floor, walls, furniture. As a result of this, numerous reflected waves will fall into the hearing organs. The presence of reflected waves in the rooms makes it possible to sound for a longer time to sound and not to damp at one point. The time of reverb is called the time of attenuation/fading sound, and the concept of “standard reverb time” was additionally introduced in acoustics and means the time for which the sound loses its energy by 60 dB.
Any room in which the acoustic system is installed will seem more if you increase the time of arrival of the first reflections of sounds. And if there is an echo effect, even a very small room will be subjectively perceived as a large concert hall in size.
Changes in the room when installing the acoustic system
At the stage of designing a home cinema, various measures for acoustic processing of the premises, where it is planned to install equipment will be required. In many cases, problems in the processing of premises are quite subjective. Indeed, if there is an additional need for residents to put new furniture or decorate the room with various decor items, this can already lead to a violation of the initial picture of the distribution of sound waves.
Often, the desire to certainly perform the design of the premises where it is planned to place the home theater does not fully coincide with the requirements for acoustics. And, ultimately, the usual repair with rearrangement of furniture can completely negate all efforts on the correct installation and installation of a home theater. In addition, it should be borne in mind that most often the installation and installation of a home theater is carried out at the final stage of construction and overhaul, while it is best to carry out this procedure after filling the room with furniture and interior items. Only then can an experienced acoustics with a high degree of success to make all the necessary adjustments and provide the highest sound quality.
Buying a home theater is a very responsible decision, and its future owner must take into account many factors. You need to be prepared for the fact that the connection and configuration of the home theater will be inextricably linked with the need to process the surfaces of the room with special acoustic materials – panel low -frequency absorptions. In addition, the processing of walls with sound-absorbing and sounding materials is possible to exclude the so-called flutter effect.
It may also be necessary for the additional installation of special scattering diffusers, which, in turn, can eliminate the effect of combed filtration from the sound waves of the first reflections. In some cases, it will be necessary to lay out a thick carpet on the floor in the place of the first reflections and exclude the placement of furniture or interior items with a fairly good reflective ability.
