The UK government has recently decided to ban the sale of new internal combustion engine cars by 2030. Last week, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the plan was too ambitious and would be scrapped. He allowed petrol and diesel cars to be sold in the country until 2035.
BMW Group has previously announced plans to preserve the “historic” MINI plant in Oxford and invest £600 million in it as part of its “readiness for a global electric future”.
Ford, Stellantis and Tata Group have spent significant money renovating and converting factories to produce electric cars.
Nissan has vowed to continue its plan to sell only electric cars in Europe by 2030.
BMW and Stellantis are convinced that the latest policy decision by the UK authorities could hinder the spread of electric cars in the UK and potentially cause economic damage to the country.
