The British are proud of their isolation from the rest of Europe and their uniqueness. They still measure distances in miles, not kilometers, religiously observe the custom of playing cricket and drive on the left. Sometimes British traditions contradict logic, but in such cases it is not particularly taken into account.
The British, as a northern nation, are distinguished by their cold-bloodedness. It is not customary for them to show their feelings violently, but they are sociable, humorous and friendly. The locals’ manner of joking about everything sometimes puzzles foreigners. Among the English customs are the lack of categorical judgments, changing clothes for dinner.
Britain is a country of numerous festivals, the most beloved flower festival among the people is held in Chelsea in May.
A special holiday for the British is the Queen’s Birthday, it falls on the second Saturday of June, being an official date (not an actual one). Military men in ceremonial uniforms march through the squares and streets, music plays, and the queen rides in a carriage, greeting her people.
