The gas cylinder is a metal reservoir in which a variety of gaseous substances are stored under high pressure. As a rule, these tanks are narrow and high, and they are bought most often in order to store oxygen, helium, propane and nitrogen. But they can also hold compressed air and many other types of gases. Cylinders are used at different facilities, including in laboratories, production workshops, industrial centers, medical institutions, construction facilities. In many rural houses are gas cylinders that are used to “power” the stoves.
In different countries, there are different requirements related to the storage and transportation conditions of gas cylinders, but all these requirements are quite strict. Rules for gas cylinders exist in view of a high risk that occurs when the gas is under pressure, as well as because the gases themselves carry a chemical threat and fire hazardous/explosive in nature.
Store in boxes for cylinders and move in carts for cylinders
The cylinders are stored in an upright position, even if they are empty, and they are also transported in an upright position, and, therefore, a special cart for cylinders is used to move, and not any other type of cart. Such a cart has a small stand for the cylinder and the fastener system to fix it. The trolley on two wheels is interspersed (sometimes the cart has four or three wheels, which holds the cart in an inclined position when moving). Some carts for moving gas cylinders are designed so that transportation seems even simpler. Some carts allow you to move the cylinders up the stairs.
The cylinders are moved to the carts after all the valves are closed, the regulator is removed and the protective cap of the valve is replaced. The cylinder is neatly placed on the cart, fixed in an upright position and only after that the cart itself is slightly tilted, moving to wheels (the process resembles the movement of a tourist suitcase).
If the cylinders are transported in freight transport, then only in an upright position with consolidation on the wall.
Gas cylinders cannot be pulled, dragged, rolled on the floor. Any situation when you need to move the cylinder from place to place is solved using a trolley.
For safe movement of gas cylinders, not only hand carts are used, but also platforms for cylinders. You can store cylinders not only with fixing on the wall, but also in special cabinets for gas cylinders (these cabinets or boxes are usually made of metal and delivered with “gas” warning signs already applied to them) or containers for cylinders (metal systems (metal systems with or without walls with or without walls).
Structures for storing cylinders and moving them, as a rule, differ in style and number of accommodated cylinders.
The basic rules of the equipment of the premises where gas cylinders are stored: the cylinder should not be next to the heat source, you can’t smoke next to the cylinder, the cylinders should be in an upright position and they need to be fixed, the cylinder should not come into contact with the ground, salt, ice or water. It should also be borne in mind that oxygen cylinders and fuel cylinders are stored separately from each other.
