How to make an office from the industrial premises on the example of a factory in Tokyo

August 14, 2018

Schemata architects made an office master from a regular factory building for Kimono Designer. It turned out so beautifully that we wanted to share with you an example of how to turn the old factory-Square building into a presentable office and exhibition room. So that you know that even the sale of a warehouse in the Chekhov district can help you get budget real estate for office work, with the necessary investments, and not just a cheap place to store things.

The Tokyo Studio under the leadership of the architect Joe Nagasak was engaged in the project. The team turned the old industrial-Square, built of stainless steel, into a three-story workspace for Takahashi Hiroco, an artist and a textile designer, the main specialization of which is monochrome prints on the kimono.

Architects explain that they had to work on the building themselves, because when it was built (approximately about 40 years ago), the low cost of construction was more important than the quality. As a result, after years, the structure was full of distortions of metal and voids. All this designers transformed into unique features by updating the finish and design.

A garden was created inside the building by planting plants in gray plastic pots and boxes. Views with large sheets were chosen as plants, and vessels on long chains were hung on the walls and greens were also placed in them. With the help of sliding structures, office premises were created on the second floor. Most walls were designed by ordinary texture plywood.

Particularly original spans with wooden stairs and the mirror area on the ground floor, where the main exhibition zone and the candy hall is located. The first floor, by the way, is entirely visible from the street through the glass facade of the structure.

Almost the entire decor and the design are made of those materials from which the building was initially and consisted. This is metal and plywood. White paint and glass were added to them. The floors of the first floor remained concrete, on the second floor they laid a warmer coating. The ceilings almost did not touch, only the ceiling lamps were fixed on them.

The interior, as befits the building, turned out to be industrial. And although not everyone will be able to work in such an office, many companies seek to create this particular style in their workspace, since it is currently considered one of the most fashionable.
