What can be seen on the territory of the Clementinum complex
In the old city of Prague on an area of 20,000 square meters. m spread out the spacious complex of baroque buildings by the Clementinum.
Its most of it is currently allocated for the needs of the National Library of the Czech Republic. This is the second largest complex, inferior to the size of the Prague degree.
Two churches, three chairs, five yards, two towers, educational and living quarters, a library, a printing house were located on its territory.
The complex received its name from the Romanesque church of St. Clement erected in the XI century, which was here in the Middle Ages along with the monastery of the monks of the Dominican Order, who settled here back in 1227.
In 1339, the church burned down in a city fire and after recovery received the status of a chapel.
